NPP founding participants urge for elimination of the delegate system.

The Ashanti regional founding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have advocated for the abolition of the party's delegate system, as the NPP embarks on a deeper retrospection effort to understand their setback in the 2024 general elections.

The group's Chairman and Secretary, Kofi Obiri Yeboah and Kofi Nsia Amponsah, released a statement in Kumasi expressing worries about many problems that may have contributed to the party's failure in the December elections.

According to the organization, the party's delegate structure is harming the NPP's chances since it promotes bribery and corruption.
"The procedure by which a few members choose party leaders for the majority. This affects all party internal elections and has negative consequences such as bribery and corruption, which leads to monetisation of party elections.

As a result, it has requested authorities to launch a large member registration drive, allowing all card-carrying members in good standing to vote in NPP primaries.
Walking down memory road, the Ashanti regional NPP founding fathers said that whenever the party suffers from disinterest in a national election, it loses the
 elections.

"The party had some disinterest in 2008, with the worst of it occurring in 2024. When indifference among party members and supporters sets in, we go directly into opposition. Let us investigate the fundamental causes of this canker and eradicate it totally.
Candidates imposed on delegates
The concerned group accused some NPP officials of employing unusual measures to force candidates on delegates.

"Leaders at the top of the party hierarchy use deception and coercion to push their favored candidates on delegates, particularly during parliamentary primaries, and through a so-called MAFIA system, all those who stand in their way are thrown out of the delegates album. The elections for polling station executives are not transparent and require revision. Where the competition is fierce, such preferred options are proclaimed unchallenged.

Greed
The founding members saw that many campaign leaders were on a mission of personal advancement.
"The majority of campaign team leaders sought the role for personal benefit. Various quantities of money were provided to these self-seeking individuals for certain duties, but they pocketed the money and failed to complete the assignments.

Internal Party Conflicts; Arrogance and Abuse of Power
It discovered significant internal party conflicts at both the national and constituency levels.
"It was also noticed with dismay the rampant internal disagreements in the party from the national level to the seats, which jeopardised the smooth operation of the party institutions.

"Arrogance was at its pinnacle among party chairs and political appointees, causing a schism between them and grassroots members, the elderly, and former appointees. All of these led to the poor electoral results. The aforementioned, as well as many other essential concerns that cannot be described here, must be identified and addressed.

Proposing a remedy to the aforementioned difficulty, the Ashanti regional NPP founding members urged the party's leadership to be inclusive in the selection, appointment, or election of review committee members.

In an assertion expressing their displeasure with how they are being treated by the party, the quasi-aged NPP association expressed concern about neglect from the party, revealing that despite risking their lives during Ghana's revolutionary days in the name of the NPP, the party has sidelined them.

"The founding Fathers who risk their lives in the days of revolution to register the party have been shelved all these years , and must now be included in all the decision making processes of the party." The Ashanti Regional NPP Founding members inquired.

It is believed that an organization, country, or party that does not acknowledge its heroes is unworthy of dying for.

According to the group, the challenge is large but not impossible, therefore they should seize the initiative and collaborate to improve the NPP.
