John Dramani Mahama, President of Republic of Ghana affirmed that Ghana remains committed to its regional collaborations in research and tertiary education.
He argues that the economic problems facing the nation require knowledge-based solutions, underlining the necessity of continental collaborations to drive development.
We recognize and indeed cherish that the challenges of today, public health, food security, climate resilience or digital transformation, are too expensive, too complex, and too knowledge intensive to be tackled individually at the national level." And it is because of this that Ghana will continue in collaboration with our other partners on the continent and in the world, harnessing the strength of our economic institutions, the creativity of our researchers, and the energy of our youth to propel our common agendas" he stressed.
Marking the 10 – year anniversary of the Africa Centers of Excellence, President Mahama clarified that Ghana was able to accelerate progress by coordination and leveraging on each other's strength.
"We are confident that by coordination of our efforts and playing on the strength of each other, we can hasten progress which we cannot make as individual players. Our institutions have on the table spaces of unambiguously defined strength of strategy spanning from coastal resilience and crop improvement to genetic medicine and renewable energy. We are therefore well-placed to reinforce such contributions in collective channels geared towards outcomes, innovation and impact. As a nation, we do not regard ourselves as recipient partners only but contributory stakeholders to a collective vision for African development" President Mahama added.
