President John Mahama also named Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister, as the National Security Minister. It was in a letter addressed to Parliament and read by the Speaker at a Friday, March 7, 2025, sitting.

It was according to Act 1030, Sec 64, of the Securities and Intelligence Act, 2020. President Mahama stated, "I inform the House that I have delegated ministerial responsibility for national security to the Minister of the Interior, Hon. Mohammed-Muntaka Mubarak."

The President went on to state that the Interior Minister would henceforth be responsible for issues of national security in addition to his existing portfolio.

Such a concerted role is aimed at effective coordination of the Ministry of Interior and national security services towards the purpose of a unified approach to threats management to security.
