As the world marks International Women's Day, Ghana Health Service Acting Director General Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea reaffirmed the institution's resolve in women empowerment and malaria eradication. Malaria remains a significant public health threat in Ghana, and it disproportionately affects pregnant women and children below five years of age. Professor Akoriyea hammered home the point that women need to take charge of protecting themselves and their communities against malaria.
On this International Women's Day celebration day, I would like to encourage all women to seek early treatment and enhance community activities so that collectively, we can boot out malaria," stated Professor Akoriyea. Together, we can achieve a malaria-free future."
Ghana Health Service has initiated a campaign, "Zero Malaria Starts with Me and You," to engage communities and individuals in the fight against malaria. Professor Akoriyea urged everybody to come together to fight malaria, citing that everyone should join the fight to ensure a malaria-free future.
To commemorate this International Women's Day, the Ghana Health Service honors the outstanding contribution of women to health and well-being in Ghana. Professor Akoriyea toasted his mother and all women for their relentless work and asserted, "We celebrate you and your selfless commitment toward a healthier and more equitable nation."
Although still battling with malaria, the vision of the eradication of malaria will be realized with the active involvement of women groups, communities, and other stakeholders as envisioned by the Ghana Health Service. Let us collectively build a healthier, better future for all Ghanaians.
