Ghana's Council of State Elections 2025: Key Dates and Details Announced


The Electoral Commission has announced the impending elections for Regional Representatives to the Council of State, in accordance with Paragraph (C), Clause (2) of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution. The elections are scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in all regional capitals.




Aspiring candidates must submit their Nomination Forms, together with two current bust-sized pictures against a red backdrop, to their respective Regional Directors. The submission period runs from Tuesday, January 28 to Friday, January 31, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.






To be eligible, nominations must be offered and seconded by two registered voters in the region, as well as supported by twenty registered voters in the same region. Candidates must also agree to be nominated for election as Members of the Council of State.

The Electoral Commission has made the Nomination Forms accessible for download on its website ((link unavailable)), and candidates must fill them out in triplicate.

The Council of State is a body formed under the 1992 Constitution that includes delegates elected from each area as well as members chosen by the President. The Council advises the President on critical national issues.








Mrs. Jean Mensa, the chair of the Electoral Commission, has promised the people that the electoral process will be transparent and fair. With the elections approaching, ambitious candidates are invited to engage and contribute to the democratic process.
