The Electoral Commission has scheduled Council of State elections for February 11.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that elections to select Regional Representatives to the Council of State will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in all regional capitals. This decision is in accordance with Paragraph (C), Clause (2) of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution.

In a statement issued by the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa, the Commission outlined the requirements and timelines for the nomination process. “Qualified persons who intend to stand for the said Elections should submit their Nomination Forms with two (2) copies of a recent bust-sized photograph against a RED background showing their full face and ears,” the statement said.

Each nomination must be proposed and seconded by two registered voters from the nominee's region and supported by 20 additional registered voters from the same region. The candidate must also provide written assent to their nomination for election to the Council of State.
The EC stated that completed nomination forms should be presented to the appropriate Regional Directors at the prescribed times and locations.
The Commission will choose and communicate the venues in all regional capitals for the elections on February 11, 2025.
The Council of State advises the President, and these elections are an important step towards guaranteeing regional representation in the body.

Prospective candidates and stakeholders can obtain additional information by visiting the EC's official website or contacting one of its regional offices.
