Founder of the Elmina Sharks Football Club, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom,
has denounced sternly the Ghana Police Service over the arrest of the club's general manager, Kelvin Aboagye, calling the act "shameful" as unjust.
The match took place in a Division One league game between Swedru All Blacks and Elmina Sharks on Sunday, 16th of February, 2025, at the Nduom Stadium in Elmina. Referee Eso Doh Morrison awarded a contentious penalty to Swedru All Blacks, which sent players, officials, and supporters of Elmina Sharks into fury. The decision created tension toward the latter end of the game as officials and fans engaged themselves in physical battles.
"What a shame! This is ridiculous. Kelvin Aboagye is not anyone's suspect. If the GFA and the police play it this way, we too can play the game," Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has shared on social mediaDr. Nduom has also faulted the action of the police towards the situation and asked why the District Police Commander, who was present at the stadium, did not do what was necessary to safeguard the referees and spectators. If they're coming for me, so be it. For the GFA, try at your own risk. Waiting for them. FIFA money men. This is how we rebuild passion for football? Clueless!"
Aboagye and others were, in a police report, apprehended for reportedly assaulting the referee and other spectators. He is in police custody, assisting in investigations, while the authorities are looking for others.
