Airport Hills' management company, Finali Limited, has acknowledged that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is a renter at his home in the posh Accra neighborhood.
The explanation followed a request from Parliament's Appointments Committee for information on Mr Ablakwa's residence status, property ownership, and occupation at Plot No. 565, No. 1 Wilshire Boulevard.
In response, Finali Limited informed the committee chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, of the conditions of the minister's lease agreement.
According to the corporation, the property was registered with a land title certificate issued on December 15, 2017, and it encompassed a 0.29-acre area.
It also verified that Husni Altheebeh, the property owner, and Mr Ablakwa, along with Nuhela Seidu, signed a tenancy agreement on March 1, 2017. On August 8, 2017, the firm consented to the deal, which was renewed on March 1, 2022.
"The tenancy remains valid, and all necessary consents have been granted," the statement read, adding that Airport Hills is largely an owner-occupied community, with rentals authorized only with the company's agreement.
The response was supported by supporting documentation, such as the land title certificate, the approval certificate for the 2022 renewal, and signed commitments between 2017 and 2022.
Ablakwa replies.
Following the clarification, Mr Ablakwa responded in a social media post, denying suspicions about his ownership of the property.
He emphasized that Finali Limited has established that he does not own the property and is only a tenant. He further denied that the property is divided into four sections, claiming that it is all on one plot. Furthermore, he stated that the owner is not a part of his family and is not Ghanaian.
The Foreign Minister said he was unconcerned by what he called attempts to defame him, claiming that in his 17 years in public service, he had never been accused of any misconduct or found liable in an audit report.
He asserted that efforts to damage his reputation would fail and reiterated his commitment to national duty.
"If that is my crime, it is a tiny price I am prepared to pay to defend national resources," he said, adding, "Their nefarious plans have already failed. ORAL will be successful. Let us focus on resetting Ghana. For God and Country. "Ghana First."
As part of its screening procedure, the Appointments Committee requested clarification on the minister's residence status.
