IMF Director tells Akufo-Addo: "You've laid the foundation for Ghana's future"

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), praised the former President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for his solid leadership while in office, saying that he (Akufo-Addo) lay the groundwork for Ghana's future.

Ms Kristalina Georgieva's letter, dated Wednesday, 8 January 2025, a day after Akufo-Addo left office, also stated that the IMF appreciated the previous President's administration's amicable interactions with the fund during the course of the government's eight-year tenure.

"As you leave your position as President of Ghana following fair and peaceful elections, I'd want to convey my appreciation for your leadership during your tenure. Your administration's policies and reforms paved the way for Ghana's future.

"Your activism for Sub-Saharan Africa during the COVID-19 epidemic also helped marshal the resources required to respond to the disaster. Kristalina Georgieva's letter to former President Akufo-Addo also praised the government's strong partnership with the International Monetary Fund.

"The recent conclusion of the third review of the IMF-supported program, as well as the progress made in restoring macroeconomic stability over the last three years, demonstrate a successful cooperation. These accomplishments indicate your commitment to fundamental changes and provide a promising view for the future.
I appreciate your service and leadership. I wish you the best in your future undertakings," the letter said.
