Reports submitted to GhanaWeb indicate that Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited has sued investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni for the latter's continuous defamatory statements against the company.References of a High Court writ reported in the 21st February 2024 edition of Ghana's Times report that Manasseh Azure Awuni (the Defendants) in December 2023 authored a series of defamatory articles about SML's contract with the Government of Ghana (GOG) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The Plaintiff (SML) further asserts that notwithstanding that a case of brazen defamation had been instituted against the Manasseh-A journalist in Chapter 28 of his book titled "The President Ghana Never Got" made comments about the Plaintiff's concord with the GOG and GRA, said chapter having been written as "The Mother of All Scandals.".
It is the position of the company that the words used in Chapter 28 of Defendant's book and words used by Defendant to explain the contract lay blame on Plaintiff and characterize Plaintiff as a criminal enterprise, and that there is no basis in fact on which to do so.
Therefore, Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited wants the court, inter alia, to perpetually restrain Manasseh Awuni from publishing any other defamatory material of and concerning the Plaintiff. The company further wants a retraction and apology of Chapter 28 of the defendant's book, which dubbed SML's contract as "The Mother of All Scandals.
SML contends that its contracts with the GoG and GRA were risk-reward in nature where it was to be paid out of revenue overrun generated from its services, and that it has acted with "utmost integrity, accountability, and transparency" in all its activities.
