Manasseh Awuni Azure, a renowned investigative journalist, has accused President Mahama of protecting former government officials suspected of corruption.
According to him, Mahama's widespread suspension of court proceedings demonstrates that he is more concerned with shielding his supporters than with providing justice.
"I nicknamed Akufo-Addo the Chief Clearing Agent, and Mahama seems to relish that title," Azure told me.
In a Facebook post on Monday, February 10, he cautioned that Mahama's present acts are following the same pattern, undermining accountability.
Azure cited other cases in which officials who had been vetted by political authority eventually admitted to malfeasance.
"Let us not forget that the individuals Akufo-Addo cleared and openly supported were not all clean. Pius Hadzide, for example, who was absolved of involvement in the Australia visa issue, openly admitted to his role when running for Asuogyaman MP in the just concluded election," he said.
He warned that political meddling in the judicial process might have long-term detrimental consequences for Ghana's government.
"Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) cannot succeed when its implementers are engaged in Operation Clear All Looters (OCAL)," Azure told me.
He asked Mahama to alter his stance, claiming that a government serious about combatting corruption should not be acquitting those accused of financial misconduct.
