In a bitter attack on the budget reading by the finance minister laid before Parliament today, the minority leader, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the government of having read out what he called an "Azaah" or knowingly fictitious budget. This came after reading Part 2 of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's budget, which he insisted did not sufficiently deal with some of the key economic challenges.
This is just half of the series of NDC complaints," Afenyo Markin remarked, in disapproval of the government's budget plans. He also added that the budget had no tangible, realizable plans to deal with Ghana's economic concerns and was, in his view, an extension of the government's buck-passing culture.
His chastisement comes after the government budget, which still arouses criticism. Opposition leaders demand tougher action in addressing Ghana's economic and fiscal issues. As the debate rages on, both sides will be forced to continue negotiations on the budget's effectiveness in propelling long-term national development.
