The Minister-Designate for Labour, employment, and Employment, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has hailed the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) planned 24-hour economy as a revolutionary move to raise productivity, generate employment, and improve the livelihoods of Ghana's workforce.
During his parliamentary vetting on Thursday, January 30, Pelpuo detailed his vision for how the policy will transform Ghana's labor environment, notably by addressing young unemployment and increasing worker pay.
The 24-hour economy, championed by former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, attempts to expand economic activity beyond the traditional 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. workday. The policy framework suggests a three-shift working schedule across many industries to ensure continuous economic activities.
Pelpuo noted that enacting this strategy will improve labour efficiency and harness Ghana's workforce to generate productivity growth.
He emphasized that the project is about more than just working longer hours; it is also about ensuring that people are fairly compensated for their efforts.
The 24-hour economy is a strategy proposed by President John Dramani Mahama to engage the people of Ghana actively and enhance the existing 24-hour working arrangement.
Our commitment is to increase production by the working class and ensure they receive what they deserve.
