The Sales and Marketing Manager of DPS Industries Limited is facing charges in the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly spending the company's GH¢491,000 in casino and online sports betting.
Court papers show that Depak Sonar, accused of stealing GH¢681,000 from the firm, invested GH¢491,000 and used the remainder GH¢190,000 to pay personal obligations.
Sonar, on the other hand, pled not guilty to the theft accusation when he appeared in court yesterday before Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit.
Osman Muhaideen, counsel for the accused, requested that the court give his client bail.
The accused was granted bail for GH¢700,000 with three sureties (to be justified) earning at least GH¢5,000.
According to the bail requirements, all sureties must be public personnel who live within the jurisdiction.
Sonar was also ordered by the court to submit his passport at the registry and report to the police every two weeks.
The case has been postponed until April 23, 2025, pending guidance from the Attorney-General.
The prosecution's facts
