Ghana to host the inaugural Rising Star Rugby League Tournament in Accra.

The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG), in partnership with Futurestars Charity and Salford Red Devils, is organizing the first Rising Star Rugby League Tournament—Accra Edition (U-15) on March 20, 2025. The tournament, to be held at Englebert School between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM, is designed to find and develop future rugby legends and promote teamwork and sportsmanship among schoolchildren. It is a big step towards the growth of the rugby league in Ghana because it unites schools and communities to adopt the sport.

Six schools' clubs made up of Future Leader School (Panthers), Twedaase (Bulls), Englebert School (Skolars), Tema Cluster, and Queensland International (Tigers) will take part. The teams will compete for the top prize, while fans will enjoy an assortment of activities such as the Hit-The-Bottle Challenge, E-Rugby League Games, Team Chant Challenge, and Trophy Tour.

Rugby League Federation Ghana President, Mrs. Juliana Storey, said that the tournament provides the best stage for the younger players to learn rugby league competitiveness. "With a development and competitive setting, we are preparing future rugby league icons for Ghana," she added.

This collaboration with Salford Red Devils and Futurestars Charity is an excellent illustration of the RLFG's dedication to growing grassroots and rugby league for all. Emmanuel Okyen-Tetteh, Futurestars Charity Country Leader, spoke of the ability of sport to be a force for good.

"We at Futurestars Charity believe that sport, and in our case rugby league, can transform lives by teaching children the values of discipline, hard work, and determination. With this partnership we are providing children with an opportunity to grow, both on and off the field," he continued to say. The event is not only a tournament but a procession of community engagement, youth development, and rugby league development in Ghana.
