Would you like to share that file? Transferring files has never been easier thanks to the ability to share folders and files across your network. Microsoft discontinued the HomeGroup function, which needed both computers to be on the same network. However, if both machines are running Windows 10/11 and are connected to the same network, you may use this approach to transfer data. This wikiHow will show you how to transfer files across machines on the same network.
Sharing files across computers
Open File Explorer and select "Network."
Select "Turn on network discovery and file sharing."[1]
Right-click on your file, select "Give access to," and enter the machine name.
STEP 1
STEP 2
Enable network discovery. First, launch File Explorer (key Win + E) and go to "Network." It's a selection in the panel on the left side of the screen.[2]
If network discovery is turned off, you will get an error message dialog box. Click OK to close that window, then choose the Click to Change banner at the top of the window.
Click Enable network discovery and file sharing. You may be asked if you want network discovery enabled for all public networks; select an answer to proceed. Finally, input your administrator password to proceed.

Right-click the file you wish to share. File Explorer shows your directories on the left and your files on the right.[3]
To locate a file on your Desktop, select the "Desktop" folder on the left.
You may also enter the name of the file you're searching for into the search box in the upper-right corner of the screen and click the magnifying glass to see results.
Right-clicking it will reveal a menu.
Hover your cursor over Give access to, then choose Specific People. The "Give access to" menu choice will open a side menu.
A new window with the names of computers on your network.
Click on the name of the machine you wish to share with. Once the file or folder has been shared, the recipient will be able to discover it in File Explorer > Network.[4] To disable sharing, right-click a file or folder and select Give access to > Remove/Restrict.
There are several more ways to transfer data, including utilizing a portable disk, wirelessly transferring, and sharing via cloud services.
