In order to address the problems with the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program and improve educational results, President John Dramani Mahama has restated his commitment to making improvements.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Mr. Mahama highlighted education as one of his main goals during his "Thank You Tour" of the Central Region.
He described strategies for bolstering the Free SHS program, including obtaining specialized funds and decentralizing food purchases to guarantee more effective operations.
"We will continue to prioritize education and strive to give our kids the greatest learning environment possible at every level.
Additionally, make sure that our young people possess the abilities required to participate in the global market. In order to obtain specialized finance and decentralized food procurement, we intend to enhance the Free SHS program.
Along with a pledge to upgrade tertiary institutions' infrastructure to handle increasing student populations, Mr. Mahama also announced the implementation of a "no academic fees" program to offer financial aid for continuing students.
"In addition, we will expand infrastructure for tertiary institutions and implement a 'no academic fees' policy that offers financial aid to continuing students."
