If Afenyo-Markin does not apologise to Clerk Bernard Ahiafor, he will face the Privileges Committee.

Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of Parliament's Appointments Committee, has warned that the Minority would be reported to the Privileges Committee if he does not issue an unqualified apology to the Clerk of Parliament's Appointment Committee.

In a live televised outburst, Alexander Afenyo-Markin accused Gifty Jiagge-Gobah of being political, an accusation he repeated in several press conferences and media interviews.

He said she was working in support of the National Democratic Congress.

According to sources, his words sparked a melee among committee members, halting the screening process that day.

In response to the recent disturbance, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has suspended four Members of Parliament and directed the Clerk to submit a formal complaint to the police.

During a segment on PM Express on Monday, the Adaklu Member of Parliament provided an update regarding the incident, characterizing Afenyo-Markin's aggression towards Jiagge-Gobah as "reckless, unnecessary, and unjustifiable."

The Akatsi South Member of Parliament further remarked that the situation is far from resolved, asserting, "A Member of Parliament cannot conduct himself in such a manner."

He indicated that Mr. Afenyo-Markin's conduct will be addressed by the Privileges Committee, where he may encounter significant consequences should he fail to take this opportunity to issue an apology.

"He should join me in apologizing to the committee Clerk. If he takes advantage of this opportunity, there will be no need to refer him to the Privileges Committee.

However, if he fails to do so, we will follow the established guidelines and applicable consequences will be enforced," he stated.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin will have the chance to apologize and resolve the situation peacefully in the upcoming days. If he refuses, disciplinary procedures will commence.

Despite the controversy, Afenyo-Markin has received significant support from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which claims that Speaker Bagbin is acting autocratically by suspending three of its MPs.

The party has called the decision unacceptable, claiming that it limits its capacity to keep the administration responsible.

Meanwhile, the Appointments Committee will meet shortly to evaluate deputy ministerial nominations, which President John Mahama is anticipated to unveil in the coming days.
