A cholera epidemic in Effutu has killed two youngsters.

The Effutu Municipality in the Central Region is dealing with a cholera outbreak, which has resulted in 356 documented cases and two deaths, both of which were children.

Currently, 15 people are being treated at the Winneba Municipal Hospital, and the quick spike in cases has aroused serious worries among health officials, prompting urgent calls for national action.

Dr Douglas Amponsah, interim Medical Superintendent at Winneba Municipal Hospital, voiced significant worry over the increase in cholera cases.

"The loss of two children to this disease is a devastating reminder of how urgent the situation is," the governor said.

Dr. Amponsah stated that 29 of the 356 reported cases of cholera have been formally diagnosed, while the other cases are still being investigated.

He noted that the bulk of the cases had come from villages with inadequate sanitation services.

"The majority of those impacted are from fishing areas, where cleanliness is a big concern. There have been no cholera cases reported in places with higher sanitation. This emphasizes the necessity of increasing cleanliness to prevent illness transmission," he added.

"The outbreak has particularly affected pregnant women and children, many of whom come from areas lacking proper waste management," Dr. Amponsah said with sadness.
