President Mahama Orders Swift Investigation into Election-Related Deaths in 2020 and 2024

In 2020 and 2024, President John Mahama called for an exhaustive and expeditious inquiry into the election-related deaths that were suffered. Apart from guaranteeing equity and accountability, the instruction aims at establishing the causes of the unfortunate deaths. In his letter, President Mahama expressed his deepest concern over the killings suffered during the electoral process. He asserted that safeguarding its citizens and defending democratic values are the duty of the state. "In order to prevent future occurrences, it is imperative that we probe these incidents," he said.

The main aim of the investigation will be to establish why the people died, who was involved, and whether any election or security infringements occurred. The objective will be to provide an inclusive report that will inform future election reforms and improve official and voter security.

President Mahama also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and promised the country that the investigation would be carried out openly and in a non-biased manner. He reiterated the need to ensure harmony and trust in the electoral process.

The determination of the government to ensure justice and security for the citizens is seen through President Mahama's order of an instant investigation into the deaths that occurred during the election. The results are to be used to guide future electoral processes and to maintain Ghanaian democracy.
