I did not work together with Mercy Chinwo for attention. Diana Hamilton

Diana Hamilton, a multi-award-winning and renowned United Kingdom-based Ghanaian gospel artiste, does not frequently collaborate with others, let alone her Ghanaian counterparts, so what would have compelled her to recently feature Nigeria's Mercy Chinwo if not for fame and publicity? The 2021 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year, however, clarifies that her collaborations with foreign artists are not to finance another artiste's image or popularity.

Her qualifications for selecting collaborators are spiritual direction and a commitment to finding the appropriate fit for the message of her music, along with collaborating with others who can add depth to the spirituality of her music. Reacting to the matter in an interview with Graphic Showbiz in Accra, Diana Hamilton who recently collaborated with Nigerian artiste Mercy Chinwo on her song The Doing of the Lord emphasized that it is her responsibility to ensure that her songs are original and make an impact.

"Every song has a purpose and a message, and I just feel like whoever I'm working with has to be connected to that purpose. It is not a matter of doing music; it is a matter of touching lives and ministering to individuals. It is not a matter of who can bring the most attention or traction to the song. It is never about that."It's a matter of finding the right artist who can best represent the message and feeling behind the lyrics. I would rather work with somebody who loves the message of the song as much as I do and is not afraid to do whatever it takes to bring it out. In a way that will touch and inspire others, as the Holy Spirit guides us," she went on to say.

When asked about her limited collaborations with Ghanaian gospel artistes, the diva clarified that time and location factors usually worked against her being available to collaborate with her Ghanaian counterparts on projects. She clarified that this was by no means a result of any ill will towards them.

"I would love to do that with my people but I am not always around.". I remember I had once recorded a song that was going to be a feature with an artist. I sent my part to music producer Kaywa after I was done, but he rejected it because he did not like it. I had to fly from the UK to re-do it all over again, and he loved what I did, and we made a masterpiece," she revealed.
