Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20, 2025, vowing to lead a "revolution of common sense" as Republicans assume unified control of Washington. With his party now dominating the capital, Trump is poised to reshape the country’s institutions, starting with a flurry of executive orders targeting border control, fossil fuel expansion, and the elimination of diversity and inclusion programs across federal agencies.

Despite enduring impeachments, criminal charges, and even two assassination attempts, Trump’s return to the White House marks a significant political comeback. His inaugural address will herald the start of “a thrilling new era of national success,” emphasizing that “a tide of change is sweeping the country.” These executive orders represent the initial phase of what Trump describes as “the complete restoration of America.”

Due to freezing temperatures, the traditional outdoor ceremony was relocated to the Capitol Rotunda, the first time in 40 years such a move has been necessary. The inaugural parade was replaced by a downtown arena event, leaving throngs of Trump supporters on the National Mall to find alternative ways to join in the celebrations.

Vice President JD Vance was sworn in first, with Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh administering the oath on a family Bible. Moments later, Trump took his oath of office, using both a family Bible and the one used by Abraham Lincoln in 1861, as Chief Justice John Roberts officiated.

The ceremony was attended by a host of billionaires and tech industry leaders, including Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, Sundar Pichai, and Elon Musk. These high-profile figures mingled with Trump’s new team before the formal proceedings. Musk, the world’s richest man, is anticipated to spearhead efforts to reduce federal spending and streamline government operations.
