Odumase explosion: Ashanti Regional Minister gives monetary aid to victims.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has made a donation to the victims of the fatal explosion at Odumase, near Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region, after an explosion that claimed 3 lives and injured others as well. In a visit to the scene, Dr. Amoakohene explained that the situation was alarming.

"I was informed last night that there was an explosion at Odumase. The initial report is that one was trading explosives in the house, and due to the rainstorm, something was ignited and exploded," he revealed.

The explosion razed 30 houses, killed two persons, and injured some others. The minister promised victims of government support and instructed the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to bring relief in good time.

"We have asked NADMO to give us a detailed report of the homes that have been destroyed so that we can determine how best we can respond," he stated. Aside from the explosion, Dr. Amoakohene also addressed a bridge that is reportedly collapsing in the area because it has been undermined by mining.

I have been informed that a bridge has collapsed. It's a hanging town because there's a mining tunnel beneath it, and the bridge is weakening. I commend the authorities for shutting it down, and I warned people from using motorcycles and tricycles on it," he stated.

The minister promised to brief the Minister of Roads and dispatch engineers to evaluate the condition in a bid to conduct speedy repairs. As the security agents conduct an investigation into the blast, the dealers in the explosives are said to be in hiding.

"No arrests have been made so far. I'm told the owners of the shop that has caused this kind of inconvenience to our people are not around, but the police take a very serious view. We should do everything within our means to ensure that we don't let those things that lead to things like these recur again," said Dr Amoakohene.
