President John Dramani Mahama during Africa Prosperity Dialogues (2025) addressed African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) transformational potential.
In a speech delivered during the ceremony, Mahama centered on the fact that AfCFTA, with the potential to construct the world's largest free trade area, is an African business and entrepreneurship game-changer and industrial game-changer.
"The African Continental Free Trade Area is one of the most ambitious concepts of our generation. Potentially building the world's largest free trade area, AfCFTA offers a life-changing opportunity for African businesses, entrepreneurs, and industry," Mahama said.
But Mahama emphasized that AfCFTA has no hope if trade liberalization is enough to unleash AfCFTA potential. He listed three crucial steps that must be fulfilled to make this project a success:
Investment in Infrastructure: Mahama urged stakeholders to invest in efficient roads, rail connections, ports, and internet access so that cross-continental trade would be smooth and easy.
Strengthen intra-African supply chains: He underlined the necessity of ensuring that African manufacturing sectors produce and supply goods and services that are acceptable at regional and international levels. Harmonize Trade Policies: Mahama once more reiterated the elimination of non-tariff barriers and the lowering of company costs across borders to ensure that there is a smooth trading regime."By taking these steps, it is possible to unlock a $3.4 trillion market, generating prosperity and employment for millions of Africans," Mahama told the media.
The APD 2025 also brought together leaders and stakeholders to mind map how long-term development and economic prosperity could be attained across the African continent.
Mahama's speech highlighted the central role of AfCFTA in propelling the economic development of the continent, and the necessity for cooperation in the event that this was to be achieved.
