Johnson Asiamah is Mahama's choice for governor of the BoG.

Dr. Johnson Asiamah has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to be the next governor of the Bank of Ghana; the Council of State must approve his appointment.

His appointment comes after incumbent Governor Dr. Ernest Addison's official request to take a leave of absence before his retirement on March 31, 2025, was granted.

Having been the Bank of Ghana's Second Deputy Governor from 2016 to 2017, Dr. Asiamah brings a plethora of expertise to the position.

He graduated with a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom and has a wealth of experience in economic research, financial stability regulation, and monetary policy development.

The Presidency said in a news release that he is qualified to head the central bank because of his extensive knowledge of Ghana's financial system.

Dr. Asiamah has worked with the Bank of Ghana for more than 23 years, and throughout that time, he has significantly influenced the nation's financial regulations.

His dedication to enacting prudent monetary and exchange rate policies, maintaining a solid financial system, and stimulating economic expansion has been continuously evident.

According to the government, Dr. Asiamah's leadership is expected to support the stability and resilience of the country's economy.

He will supervise important financial policies that are intended to guarantee price stability, sustained economic growth, and financial sector reforms if he is accepted.
