At screening, Okudzeto Ablakwa lays forth the Foreign Ministry's main aims.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the nominee for Minister of Foreign Affairs, proposed a series of changes to the nation's foreign policy and diplomatic operations during his vetting session on January 31, 2025.

Mr. Ablakwa, a prominent member of the Foreign Affairs Committee for eight years, listed a number of major issues that, if verified, he intends to solve.

His main objective is to improve economic diplomacy by establishing bilateral agreements and facilitating migration possibilities that benefit the nation and its citizens.

Economic connections are crucial, he emphasized, especially in areas that would directly benefit Ghana and its citizens.

His main goal, he said, will be to negotiate deals that stimulate economic expansion and open doors for foreign companies and residents.

Furthermore, he disclosed intentions to modify the passport system. "We have over 70,000 passports that have not been collected," he stated.

By modernizing passport procedures through technology, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu hopes to enable residents to apply for and obtain passports more quickly and easily without having to deal with the inconvenience of going to the passport office.

He said part of this will be putting in place mechanisms that help people finish applications from the convenience of their homes.

Additionally, Mr. Ablakwa stated his goal to tackle the issues brought on by intermediaries, who frequently postpone passport issuing.

He said that revamping the Foreign Service to make it more results-oriented will be another important area of attention.

He emphasized that the ministry needs a "delivery unit" to make sure ambassadors and other diplomatic staff produce quantifiable outcomes that directly benefit the nation.
