GCB Bank: Farihan Alhassan, 44, replaces Kofi Adomakoh as new Managing Director


 Farhan Alhassan has been named GCB Bank PLC's new managing director, with effect from January 28, 2025. His position comes after Mr. Kofi Adomakoh, the managing director in the immediate past, left in a mutually agreeable manner.


The nomination and appointment of Mr. Alhassan has been authorized by the Board of Directors; however, it is still pending shareholder approval at the next Annual General Meeting and regulatory clearance from the Bank of Ghana and other pertinent authorities. 











Mr. Alhassan is a seasoned financial specialist who has worked in the banking industry for 20 years. He is 44 years old. He oversaw the bank's commercial banking strategy and maximized business performance throughout the country while working as the executive in charge of the business & commercial clients unit at Stanbic Bank Ghana before joining GCB.

Notably, Mr Alhassan’s rapid rise within the banking industry began at just 26, when he made history as the youngest regional manager at Barclays Bank (now Absa). In his subsequent role as Head of Retail and Distribution, he made a lasting impression on the organization with his people-centered leadership and performance-focused approach.










Mr. Alhassan has received a great deal of praise for his strategic acumen and innovative leadership throughout his career. He is renowned in creating resilient organizations, boosting corporate development, and turning around underperforming divisions. Business growth, operational management, risk and credit supervision, and dynamic leadership are among his primary skills.

As a supporter of team growth, Mr. Alhassan uses his abilities in team building, coaching, and training to empower staff members and encourage cooperation. He has been able to provide value in hectic and competitive settings because to his interpersonal and problem-solving skills.  






Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Alhassan said in a GCB news release that he is excited to empower companies and promote sustainable growth, and he is committed to influencing the direction of banking in Ghana.
