The Vatican reports that Pope Francis has pneumonia in both of his lungs.

Pope Francis, aged 88, has pneumonia in both lungs and is undergoing treatment, the Vatican announced. He is in a "complex" condition but is in good spirits. The Pope battled a respiratory infection for over a week before his admission to Rome's Gemelli hospital on Friday. A recent CT scan confirmed that he indeed has pneumonia and requires additional medication.

His health has been closely followed by doctors through lab tests and X-rays. Despite his sickness, the Vatican reported that he spent the day reading, praying, and resting. He also thanked people praying for him and requested them to continue doing so.

The Pope fell ill with pneumonia symptoms last week and had his speeches read out by others at events. All his public engagements have been postponed until Sunday due to illness, including key events for the 2025 Catholic Holy Year. Pope Francis has a history of lung problems. He lost one lung at the age of 21 because of pleurisy. He has been hospitalized numerous times during his 12-year papacy, most recently last year for bronchitis. Physicians have modified his treatment twice since his hospitalization in a bid to clear his infection. For the time being, he is still under treatment as the world gets well-wishes for him.
