Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei Reaffirms Minority’s Commitment to Accountability

As the 9th Parliament of Ghana began, Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei, Member of Parliament for the Bekwai Constituency, has reaffirmed the Minority's determination to hold the government accountable. Despite the National Democratic Congress (NDC) having a commanding majority in Parliament, Hon. Poku-Adusei reaffirmed, in her day-one opening statement when swearing the oath of office, the necessity of the minority being transparent and keeping the government on its toes.

Hon. Poku-Adusei said, "We will monitor these policies and the actions of the government." "It is our duty to hold them to their word, like the 120-day social contract H.E. John Mahama gave to Ghanaians." He demanded a robust Minority Caucus to protect the rights of the people and to maintain an open and transparent form of government.

A new legislative era was ushered in by the successful opening of the 9th Parliament of Ghana. The re-election of Rt. Hon. Alban S. Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament, the election of Hon. Bernard Ahiafor as First Deputy Speaker, and the election of Hon. Andrew Amoako Asiama as Second Deputy Speaker were all major leadership roles.

Due to the superb efforts of the transition team and the state protocol, the swearing-in of the president and vice president also took place without any issues. This was a dramatic twist for the democratic evolution of Ghana and ensured the country's compliance with peaceful transfers of power once again.

Ghanaians can look forward to strong consultation and discussion between the Majority and Minority sides as Parliament begins its legislative activities. The Minority's commitment to government accountability and the establishment of a culture of open and accountable government is attested to by Hon. Poku-Adusei's assurance.

This new chapter in Ghana's legislative history paves the way for a democratic system and an equitable system of governance.
